Cambridge roadrunners Girls’ Hockey Association Tournament Rules – Year 2013

1. OWHA rules shall apply

2. All games will consist of 10-10-12 minute stop time periods, except Peewee AA, Bantam AA, Midget AA, Midget BB, and Intermediate A will be 12-12-12, with no flood between periods.

I. All teams must be available to play 30 minutes prior to scheduled games start.
II. Tournament Officials reserve the right to eliminate floods to keep the schedule running on time.
III. In the event of a jersey colour conflict, the home team must change their jerseys.
IV. There will be a 3 minute warm up prior to each game. The three minutes begins immediately after the Zamboni leaves the ice. All games will begin immediately upon completion of the 3 minute warm up.
V. Running time will be enforced only after the first period has ended and when one team is ahead by 5 goals. Stop time will resume again once the goal difference falls below 5 again.
VI. One thirty second time-out per team will be allowed in both semi-final and final games only (this includes any overtime play).
VII. Girls will shake hands upon completion of the game. Gloves must be worn during the hand shake.

3. A maximum of 20 players (goalies included) will be allowed on each team.

4. A player can only play for one designated team during the tournament.

5. The OWHA minimum suspension guidelines will be strictly enforced. All suspensions will be enforced according to the OWHA 2012-2013 Handbook.

6. Team will be awarded 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and zero (0) points for a loss. Standings /Scores will be posted at the Preston Auditorium and the Hespeler Arena.

7. Standings after the round robin will be calculated on the basis of the points awarded as per rules, however, in the event of a tie, the following tie breaker shall be used as per OWHA rules:

I. Number of wins
II. Record against other tied teams (not applicable if three way tie)
III. Goals scored minus goals against
IV. Fewest goals allowed
V. Most periods won
VI. Fewest penalty minutes
VII. First goal scored in round robin
VIII. Most goals scored
IX. Flip of a coin

8. All Championship, Semi-final and Quarter-final games will be played to a winner. Prior to the start of any Championship, Semi-final, or Quarter-final game, each coach must designate their first 3 shooters (S1, S2 and S3) on the game sheet should a shootout be required to decide a winner. 

I. In the event of a tie at the end of regulation play, a five minute sudden victory overtime will be played as normal. All player changes must be made ‘on the fly’; no player changes will be allowed during stoppages of play. Penalties incurred during the 5 minute overtime must be served as usual. In the event that a player receives a penalty during the 5-minute overtime, that player will not be eligible to participate in the shootout.
II. If the game is still undecided, a 3-player shootout will follow. Teams will not change ends for the shootout, and the Visiting Team will shoot first. Shooters will alternate from team to team, and will proceed to the penalty box once they’ve taken their shot. After each team has taken three shots, if there is not a winner, we will proceed to a ‘sudden death’ shootout, until a winner has been decided. A shooter will not be allowed to shoot for the second time until all players on the team with the shortest roster, have taken a shot.

9. All decisions by Tournament Officials are final.
