ANGLING

Angling in hockey is a crucial technique used by players to control the movement of the puck carrier. It involves positing oneself between the puck carrier and the goal, using body positioning and stick work to guide the opponent towards the boards or away from the goal.

  1. Defensive Angling:
    • When defending, a player aims to force the opponent “to the outside.” This means directing the puck carrier away from the prime scoring area, typically towards the boards. By dictating where the opponent goes, the defender can check them effectively and regain possession of the puck.
    • To execute defensive angling, players focus on positioning themselves correctly relative to the puck carrier’s movement. They use their body and stick to limit the opponent’s options and create a barrier between the puck and the net.
  2. Offensive Angling:

Remember, mastering angling requires a combination of physical strength, quick reflexes, and a deep understanding of the game. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced player, honing your angling skills can give you a distinct advantage on the ice!
