17-18 House - Atom Teal - Cambridge Atom Teal Win Gold!!!!

The Atom Teal roadrunners win GOLD in an all Cambridge Final at this years New Years' Challenge Cup Girls Hockey Tournament!

Before I get to that amazing Gold medal game, I will need to update on how we got there and how our team has developed!

     On Dec 27th, our Girls played our first game of the Jason Cripps Tournament against the Waterloo Ravens #3 team.  It was a 8:00 am game and the roadrunners looked half asleep for the first period.  The girls came around in the 2nd and had a great 3rd period and won 5-0.  Goals to Lorelai(12), Cecilia(26), Samantha(2), Claire(1) and Kiera got her 5th Shutout!
     The second game that day was against the Grand River Mustangs.  For the first time this year the roadrunners ran up against a hot Goalie and no matter what the girls did the Netminder for the Mustangs had the answer.  Atom Teal lost for the first time this season, 3-2.  Goals went to Caitlin(3) assisted by Samantha and Makenzie, and Claire(2).  
     The Girls had to bounce back after their first loss and next up for Game #3 was Kitchener Red.  It was another great battle with no scoring in the 1st period.  In the 2nd period each team would score twice but that would be all, as both goalies and defense wouldn't allow for another goal.  Atom Teal would take the tie for their third game.  roadrunner goals went to Sophie(2) and Lorelai(13) assisted by Sophie and Claire.  
     With a 1-1-1 record in the tournament and a bit of luck the roadrunners found themselves in the Semi-Finals against Waterloo #1.  Another 8:00 am game and they would not be able to start off slow.  The Girls played a great 1st period and were up by one going into the second.  After the second period Atom teal was up 3-1.  That would not be enough to beat this determined Waterloo team.  With 3 unanswered goals from Waterloo the roadrunners would lose their 2nd game and be eliminated from the Tournament.  Goals for Teal went to Carissa(4) assisted by Makenzie, and Lorelai(15).  

     The roadrunners were disappointed in their 3rd period against Waterloo but knew they had to look ahead because the next weekend the girls had to play Kitchener Red in back to back games to open the second half season.  Two more 8:00 am games that the girls were still not playing to their ability.  The roadrunners would lose both of these games and start the 2nd half 0-2.  Goals went to Lorelai(16) assisted by Sydney and Sophie.  Cecila(27) assisted by Macie and Sydney.  Sydney(5) and Cecilia(28).

     This brings us to the Cambridge New Years Challenge Cup Tournament.  The Atom Teal roadrunners took on a transformation.  The Coaches challenged these girls to up their game to the next level, and this tournament was the first step.  The Girls accepted this challenge and with a new team cheer and new warm up this looked like a new improved Atom Teal Team.  They went 2-1 in the Round Robin, losing only to Cambridge Silver by one goal.  Won their Semi Final Game against Mooretown 4-0, and Defeated Cambridge Silver in the Gold medal game 1-0.  They outscored their oppents 17-2 in the tournament with 4 shutouts.  Goals went to Cecilia(34), Sophie(3), Lorelai(18), Caitlin(4), Claire(3) and Congrats to Arianna(1) and Nora(1) for their first goals of the season.  Also Sydney(7) with the GWG in the Gold Medal Game.  Assists to Cecilia, Claire, Nora, Sophie, Quinn, Makenzie, Sydney, Hailee, Samantha, Macie and Carissa.  As you can see this was a Team effort and we had our entire team there for every game.  We are so proud of how these girls have learned and developed so far, Its going to be a great 2nd half.  Go roadrunners and I wont forget the Pizza Party!!!
