Congratulations to the U13B roadrunners on their Gold Medal at the Southern Consolation League Finals this past weekend.
This year I was given the opportunity to bring together girls from 7 different teams, half the girls coming from the roadrunner house-league program. They developed as individuals and as a team. It was exciting to watch as a coach.
It was around the January time frame that these girls started to excel. They had goals as a team and individuals and they proved to me time after time that they weren’t giving up.
Unfortunately we fell short of attending provincials by one point, but they fought hard.
During the League playoffs, we found ourselves in the consolation side, and these girls did not disappoint. Making it through round 1 by knocking off the number 1 seeded team.
In the second round we faced Hamilton, which ended in a 1-1 series, but having fewer cumulative penalty minutes, we advanced to Championship weekend.
This was the first time any of the girls were faced with a Championship like this. There were many nerves. They played with heart and gave 110% the entire game. After 4 periods of play we found ourselves in a shootout position. It came down to our last shooter and we did it!
It was a great season, and I’m so lucky that I had the opportunity to coach these girls and create memories that they will hopefully have for a lifetime.
