Bantam DS Wins Bronze in Orangeville
The Cambridge roadrunners Bantam DS team had an exciting weekend of hockey this past weekend in Orangeville, culminating with a Bronze Medal on Sunday!

Through the round robin, the girls finished with one win, one tie and one loss, leaving them in 4th place going into the quarter finals. In the quarters against Guelph, they staked themselves to an early 3-0 lead before almost letting it get away with Guelph scoring two quick goals. They righted the ship quickly and finished strong for a 5-2 win.

In the semi's on Sunday morning, they ran into the eventual gold medal winning North Halton Twisters and although they battled hard and kept it close, 2-1 late in the second period, the Twisters proved to be too much of a challenge as they closed the game out 6-1.

That set up an exciting bronze medal match-up with Mississauga 2 on Sunday afternoon. The two teams had split their two previous match-ups (a Mississauga 6-2 exhibition win the previous weekend and a Cambridge 3-0 win earlier in the round robin.) On Sunday, the two teams played it close with both goalies coming up with many saves throughout the game to keep it 0-0 going into overtime. Cambridge got themselves in trouble early in the overtime period taking a penalty 11 seconds into the 5-minute overtime! They were able to battle through the short handed situation and with 55 seconds to go in overtime, Jordan found Haydee in front of the net for the winning goal!

Goals on the weekend came from Haydee (4), Jasmine (2), Kaley (2), Khushreet (2), Mackenzie and Jordan. Assists contributed by Jasmine (3), Jordan (2), Kaley (2), Jazmin (2), Elizabeth, Adalynn, Khushreet and Jessica. Meghan picked up a pair of shutouts and the players of the game (reflecting the strong team effort this weekend) were Adalynn, Kaley, Mackenzie, Jazmin, Kristen and Haydee.

Overall a fantastic team effort this weekend, and the coaching staff is looking forward to the remaining exhibition games and the Easter Weekend Brampton tournament. Well done ladies!
