Atom DS Wins Gold at Bolts and Hearts!!
Fresh off a bronze medal 2 weeks ago in Orangeville the Cambridge roadrunners Atom DS team was hungry to improve on that performance at the Durham West Bolts and Hearts Tournament this past weekend.

In a truly dominant performance the girls went 5-0 with 19 goals for and only 4 against and at no time trailed in any game on route to a well deserved gold medal.

The girls got off to a great start on Friday with a 5-0 win against the North Halton Twisters and a 3-1 win against a tough Nepean Wildcats team, putting them in great position after day 1. The consistent offensive pressure, responsible defensive play and strong goaltending that had made the team successful on day 1 continued into Saturday with a 3-1 win against the Scarborough Sharks and a 5-1 win against the Mississauga Chiefs. Finishing first in round robin play allowed the girls, parents and coaches, to enjoy Saturday evening together at the hotel and sleep in Sunday morning with a bye directly to the gold medal game Sunday afternoon against the Nepean Wildcats. Halfway through the first period Sophie got us on the board with a hard, well placed shot from the point that found the back of the net. Nepean tied things up in the second period but just 24 seconds later Lorelai went end to end to put us back on top. Strong defensive play and some big saves from our goalie Keira allowed us to hold that lead until Hailee jumped on a loose puck with 3 minutes left in the game to put us up 3-1, a score that would hold up.

As has been the case all year our defense (Macie, Mackenzie, Claire, Sophie, Lorelai and Sydney) limited the opponents scoring chances and Keira was rock solid in net. Goals this weekend were scored by Lorelai (7), Cecilia (4), Hailee (3), Catrina, Kylie, Addison, Jenna and Sophie with assists going to Lorelai (2), Kamryn, Jenna, Easton, Sophie, Cecilia, Claire, Catrina, Macie, Keira and Sydney.

I know I speak for all the coaches and parents when I say how proud we are of the way the girls played on the ice and the friendships and camaraderie they are developing off of it. Thank you to all the Atom DS families for making the weekend such a memorable one.
