3 Rivers Cup
The roadrunners Atom A team travelled to the beautiful town of Pittsburgh PA to take part in the It's Hockey Time Productions, 3 Rivers Cup "Peewee" division on the weekend.

Being an Atom\U10 team they arrived to meet their first challenge a U14 Wheatfield (Buffalo) team made up of 1 Novice, a couple Atom, a few Peewee and a couple of Bantam girls, needless to say the size difference of the Atom-Bantam was pretty large.

The first game started out being pinned in our own end and a Bantam D shot from the point squeaking thru to find the low bar in the first period. Undaunted, the feisty team from Cambridge kept up their strong team play and evened the score in the second period. Intensity raised up again after the goal and the roadrunners team found another opportunity to put the puck into the net in the 3rd to finish the game with a 2-1 Win.

The second game against the Carolina Jr Hurricanes U12 team proved to be a back and forth affair with solid goal tending and defensive play and the game ended 1-0 for Cambridge. Next up was the Sarnia Lady Sting Peewee B team and again a very stingy defensive game for the for the scrappy roadrunner team grinding out a 1-0 win.

The Erie Lady Lions U12 team came in a bit under gunned, defended and goalied against a the ferocious fury of the swift skating roadrunner attack and solid defense, netting 3 goals in the first 2 periods the game ended mercifully at 7-0.

Onto the Championship round Cambridge sat out Sunday morning awaiting their opponent as the other 4 teams faced off to see who would be the opponent. The girls and their moms went shopping (some more) trying to keep their nerves calm until their game against the U14 Wheatfield team. Like the first game against Wheatfield they pinned down the roadrunners in their own end and used their size to try to push the feisty roadrunner team around. The roadrunner girls bent but didn't break, they pushed back, slashed and out skated the weary Wheatfield team playing their second game of the day. With 3 1/2 minutes left the ferociously feisty roadrunner team found a hole and put the first puck into the back of the net. Only a minute and a half later the route was on as the roadrunners struck again.

4 more goals were scored in the 2nd as the opponents couldn't keep up with the swift skating attack of the roadrunner team. As the 3rd period started the girls moved to a more defensive game playing the trap, with the clock on run time the game ended quickly and the elated roadrunner team made a laundry sale in the top of the slot as they came together to cheer on their goalies and fellow teammates alike in a hard fought tournament win. The coaching, conditioning, composure and competitive team play of these roadrunner girls was fantastic to watch, their sportsgirlship to the other teams by not running up the score or over celebrating was a measure of their young ages, wise beyond their years.

Congratulations on your tournament win Girls!
