The Cambridge roadrunner Senior team went
undefeated in five straight games in the Woodstock Tournament on the weekend
and came home with gold.
In their first game of the tournament, the roadrunners defeated the Scarborough Sharks 4 – 0. Lisa Donachey opened up the scoring for the roadrunners on an assist from Erin Zach. Lorelle Dyer scored the second roadrunner goal on assists from Donachey and Terilyn Smith. Melissa Visser picked up the third goal of the game, with assists coming from Kyana Constable and Lauren Levesque. Dyer scored her second goal late in the second, with the assist coming from Smith. Janel Kuska picked up the shut out for the team.
Cambridge defeated London TPH 3 - 1 in their second game of the tournament. Donachey picked up the first goal for the roadrunners midway through the first period. Smith picked up a goal late in the first on an assist from Alex Maxwell. London scored late in the second, but Zach scored an empty netter with 16 seconds left in the third to seal the win.
The roadrunners faced the home team in their third game of the tournament. Woodstock scored the first goal of the game midway through the second period, but Cambridge answered with two goals in the third from Donachey and Constable, with assists coming from Zach and Smith. Woodstock tied the game with 3 minutes left in the third, and pulled their goalie in an attempt to secure first place, but Zach scored an empty netter with just 16 seconds left on the clock to win the game. Kuska was solid in net, facing 37 shots.
Placing first in the division, Cambridge faced the fourth place Scarborough Sharks in the semifinal round. The roadrunners again defeated the Sharks 4 – 0, with goalie Lauren Tashiro picking up the shut out. Maxwell scored the first goal of the game assisted by Smith and Zach. Zach scored the second and third goals, with assists coming from Taylor Jones, Jennifer Renton, Stephanie Schneider and Smith. Dyer netted the final goal assisted by Donachey.
Cambridge advanced to the final where they met up again with London TPH. Zach picked up the first goal mid way through the third with assists coming from Constable and Levesque. London tied it up three minutes later, but Zach answered immediately assisted by Visser and Maxwell. London pulled their goalie with over 2 minutes left in the game, and Zach scored an empty netter for the hat trick, assisted by Constable and Smith. Dyer picked up a second empty-netter on an assist from Constable, to win the game and tournament, 4 – 1.
MVP’s for the tournament were Visser, Tashiro, Kuska, Dyer, and Zach.
