CAMBRIDGE ROADRUNNERS GIRLS INTERMEDIATE “A” 2014-15 PROVINCIAL GOLD MEDAL CHAMPIONS!! On March 20-22, the Cambridge Roadrunners Woman’s Intermediate “A” hockey team competed in the 2014-2015 OWHA Provincial Championships Tournament in Etobicoke. They began the tournament on Friday afternoon beating a physical Kingston team 2-1 in round robin play. Then Friday night played Western Division rival from Stoney Creek, winning that game 2-0. Then on Saturday morning the Roadrunners faced a gritty team from Sudbury, whom the Roadrunners beat in the Sudbury Snowflake tournament in a shootout several weeks earlier. The Roadrunners won game 3, 3-0 capturing first place in their division and getting a bye to the quarter finals Saturday evening. Cambridge faced a hard checking team from Guelph in the quarters, coming out on top 3-0, gaining a birth in the semi-final round on Sunday morning. The Roadrunners again met their divisional adversaries from Kingston, eliminating them in a 2-0 victory, which advanced Cambridge to the Provincial Championship final against an offensive powerhouse team from Peterborough. The Roadrunners elevated their level of play to another level and played a very tight defensive game, shutting Peterborough’s offensive attack down and winning the gold medal 4-0 in a commanding victory. The Roadrunners played a flawless defensive style the entire tournament allowing only 1 goal against in 6 games. The Roadrunners played in 5 tournaments in the 2014-15 season, medaling in all 5 with 3 gold medals and 2 silver, completing a very successful season. Congratulations to the Cambridge Roadrunners Intermediate “A” Woman’s Hockey team on capping their season with provincial gold!
