2014 Etobicoke Tournament

The girls started game one a little slow after having not being on the ice for a week and a half, dropping the first game 4-0 to the home team Etobicoke Dolphins. They rebounded though and began to gel as a team quickly in game two on Friday night, tying Cold Creek 1-1 at the CAN-LAN Ice Park.

Then on Saturday in game three of the Round- Robin, with determination, and heart they found their scoring groove and went to work against The North York Storm, who had beaten Cold Creek the previous day. The girls put on a well-rounded offensive wave against North York Storm over- powering them in a 10-4 victory to take second place in their division.

Saturday night Cambridge met North York again in the semi-final match up at the Master Card Centre. The RoadRunners balanced their offense and defensive game, winning the semi-final game 6-0 over the North York Thunder, and earning a birth in the final show-down at the Master Card Centre against the Etobicoke Dolphins who were undefeated in the tournament to that point.

The Cambridge Road Runners, scored first to take the lead, but the Dolphins tied it up at 1 halfway through the second period.  Then with determination and heart the RoadRunners put relentless pressure on the Dolphins net scoring the go-ahead goal midway in the third period, and held on to win the gold medal in regulation time 2-1 in a thrilling final show-down, bringing the Championship banner home to Cambridge.  Congratulations to The Cambridge Intermediate “A” Girls team for a hard fought, well-earned victory and a great start to the 2014-2015 season!
